Authenticity is not Optional (On stones, Calling, and Keeping it True)

On a lovely stormy night, full of wonders sparkling bright,
an aunty writes in the DMs, eyebrows uptight:
“Hello dear, can you tell me the authenticity?”
Me — a small business owner —
“Right away, Akashik healer aunty.”
In a world of online businesses— crystals and the like—with one screaming over another about ‘authenticity,’ a manufacturer and vendor/supplier sits in the corner, silently smirking.
You see, for the ones like me, owning a metaphysical store will always be an extension of the divination path itself. Now that’s a very tricky thing to say, eh? Like, “Girl, go be spiritual… why open a store?”
Because it’s a starting point to grand designs.
This path of divination usually comes to the seeker after they travel through one hell of a ride in pitch-black darkness—a kind of darkness that is extraordinary, torturous, and yet… transformative.
But you see, some of us don’t market that story, because attaching a storyline to the why of a metaphysical store looks gimmicky—just like an adorned bio with no real backing.
I am someone who is very particular about these little representations of belief— less is more, etc., and all that jazz. :)
So, circling back to the authenticity of crystals in small business stores—those like us have to ensure that the stones are authentic.
1. There’s no fun in stocking inauthentic items, because the work it takes to replenish and readdress issues is immense. Authentic crystals help maintain consistent branding—and I’m a big fan of keeping it real.
2. The store is a year and a few months old and already creating waves of excellence. With that comes a lot of people trying to sabotage the being of the store. I was well aware of this even before the inauguration—so whatever comes up now is alchemised into abundance for the store. (The language of a spiritualist, indeed 😂💥)
3. As the store, our responsibility is to nurture authenticity. Simply because there’s no fun in stocking stones that are inauthentic.
4. That being said… of course there are suppliers (vendors, manufacturers etc) who sometimes may deliver inauthentic stones to their respective stores— but this is business, so there's no space for blame-shifting. It's always the responsibility of the store to ensure that only authentic items make it into the inventory. We spend weeks checking, counting, and rechecking to ensure our stones are worthy of our customers.
5. The store staff spends an insane amount of time checking, rechecking, and validating everything that goes up on inventory.
6. I love watching my customers ever-happy, so I am compulsively extra careful to make sure that Witch Way Out celebrates magnanimity. (Keeping it real.)
7. I don’t believe in selling in bulk—this is the reason. It’s the branding that counts, not the money. This store brings us immense joy, fulfilment, and moments of beauty.
8. Thank you for the overwhelming joy, love, and support.
Your altar is your centre point—even the altar that is not physical is your core. Any external tool should become just an extension, not the centre. Your divination is as sacred as your life experiences.
I am a spirit worker, deeply devoted to dedicating all of my divination to spirit—yes, to known and unknown spectres—of the dead and the in-betweens. Liminality holds sacred value in my practices. The soil of the dead and the soil of the gardens are both sacred to ones like me.
My altars are a reflection of the ones I worship—consorting with spirits and receiving sacred guidance from my goddess Hekate.
The Witch’s Devil is an integral part of my divination too—the herbs and roots and symbols—and the deep dive into spectrums of truth.
But beyond the key words that hold space, beyond categorizations… who you are as a diviner decides what your sacred practices are.
Key themes to keep in mind when celebrating your spiritual practices:
1. How deeply do you meet yourself?
2. Who are you when you worship/create/recreate?
3. What is the otherness of you? (That is, how do you confront the parts of you that are not as aligned as the diviner in you?)
4. What does alignment mean to you?
I’m mentioning these points to the little witch reading this… dreaming up a storm. Yes! Dream it up! Conjure it! Live those dreams!
Energy work is audacity and truth.
